From December 8th to 10th, 2023, the 18th National College Student Smart Car Competition kicked off in Chongqing. This competition was co-sponsored by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Association of Automation, and was hosted by Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. A total of 24 provinces and cities, and 65 universities participated. After three days of fierce competition, the Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology - Extreme Racing Team achieved outstanding results, winning the first prize at the national level, the champion in the undergraduate group, and the second place in the whole country.

During the preparation period, the teachers and team members gave up their rest opportunities, persevered in actively preparing for the competition despite the cold winter. Teachers Yu Wentai, Bi Haiou, and Wang Po provided guidance throughout the process, treating the school as their home, and together solved many difficult problems in mechanical systems, electronic control systems, and algorithms. During the competition, Professor Shi Jing, the Dean of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, personally led the team, guiding the instructors and team members to continue fighting on the competition field day and night, without rest.

This competition focuses on smart cars as the research object and aims to cultivate the exploration and practical abilities of college students in the field of smart cars through creative technology competitions. Under the leadership of Dean Shi Jing, as well as teachers Yu Wentai, Bi Haiou, and Wang Po, the Extreme Racing Team skillfully utilized various technical means to conduct in-depth research on key technologies of smart race cars, including brake-by-wire and steering-by-wire technologies, especially autonomous driving technology. They also conducted innovative design and optimization for practical application scenarios.

The Extreme Racing Team from Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology fully demonstrated their professional knowledge and skills in the field of smart cars, overcame difficulties, and ultimately achieved the honors of the national first prize, the undergraduate group champion, and the national second place in the fierce competition against 65 universities, relying on their excellent technical level, innovative capabilities, and team collaboration abilities.

The establishment of the Extreme Racing Team has promoted the cross-integration of disciplines and majors in our school, reflecting the achievements of our innovation and entrepreneurship education. Our school will continue to implement the concept of "promoting teaching through competitions, promoting reform through competitions, promoting learning through competitions, and promoting research through competitions". We will continue to focus on cultivating students' interest and awareness of innovation, using innovative thinking knowledge as a thinking training tool, and using various racing competition projects as a platform to combine innovative theory with innovative practice and racing competitions. We will further improve the curriculum system and talent training system, striving to become a high-level private applied undergraduate college as soon as possible.
